Student Resource Center
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
Why are you here? It is a good question to ask yourself periodically. While your reasons may be varied, it is important to recognize the ultimate Reason we all should be seeking after: to glorify God with everything we think, say, and do!
What does all this have to do with the Student Resource Room? Everything!
When you come to the SRC it is our goal to meet you where you at and then enable you to take the next step in your academic growth. It is an opportunity for you to “rightly handl[e] the word of truth”! Whether you are writing for a class on urban leadership, elementary education, English composition, public speaking or anything in between, everything can become an instrument in the hands of Christ to bring glory to God. No matter how small or inconsequential it may seem! Will you take up the challenge to do everything for Christ, at and away from CBC?
Basic Policies
- First preference will go to students who have made peer-tutoring appointments ahead of time. Otherwise, help is offered on a first come, first serve basis.
- Food and drink (except for water) is not allowed.
- Editing, grading, critiquing, etc. are not the job of the peer tutor. The peer tutors are to assist only with grammar, writing structure, brainstorming, and math assistance. In no circumstance will they give answers or do your work for you.
- Do not come to the SRC to hang out. It is a place for peer tutoring and occasional individual study. You will be asked to go to the Student Lounge or other such place to socialize.
- Computer use in the SRC is restricted to tutoring tasks ONLY. If you need to use a computer for general use, please go to the school’s computer lab or library.
- If you have any questions please contact Lachelle Feavel, Student Council Outreach Coordinator, at lfeavel@crossroads.edu, or Dr. Johnson, Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Services, at gjohnson@crossroads.edu.

Important Questions
Q: Do I have to make an appointment to be peer-tutored?
A: While not required, it is extremely helpful for you to make an appointment within the SRC’s hours of operation. It helps our peer tutors be prepared to meet with you. If you need to drop in and didn’t make an appointment, you are more than welcome to do that. However, you may not receive immediate attention if the tutor is busy with another student. You may schedule your appointments on the provided sheet on the door of the SRC.
Q: What can the peer tutors help me with?
- Writing structure
- Grammar
- Math assistance
- If there is another topic or subject that you need help with, let us know and we will do what we can to assist you.
What we cannot do is grade your assignments, write assignments for you, or edit them. This Resource Center is FOR YOU. You will be given the opportunity to improve your own academic skills by having a peer tutor work with you, ask questions, and give assistance.
Q: How can I be prepared for a tutoring session?
A: Please bring a digital or hard copy of your assignment, along with the instructor’s requirements and any helpful resources. You are more than welcome to bring your own laptop. If you have not started on your assignment, we are able to help you brainstorm for ideas but we will not give you answers. You are the master of your own education! We are here to help you accomplish that.
Q: Can I just come and study in the SRC even if I don’t need a peer tutor?
A: There may be times when the SRC is empty or only a couple of people are working, and then it is fine for you to come in and study. However, if more people need peer tutoring or help and it becomes crowded we may ask you to go to the library or another quiet place. Tutoring takes first priority.
Q: Can my friends and I come and have a study group in the SRC?
A: No. The school library and student lounge are perfect places for a study group. The SRC is for peer tutoring and occasional personal study ONLY.
Q: What if I need help ASAP and the SRC isn’t open?
A: It is always best to plan far enough in advance to not be in a panic at the last minute before an assignment is due. However, we understand how it goes sometimes, so if you find yourself in that position, email Lachelle Feavel at lfeavel@crossroads.edu with a brief explanation of what you need help with and your contact information. She will get back to you as soon as possible to assess how best to help you.
