Dean of Educational Services
Dr. Joel Badal completed his B.A. in Pastoral Studies at Moody Bible Institute and earned his M.Div. at Moody Theological Seminary. He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Leadership-Applied Theology from the Lancaster Bible College and Graduate School. Joel is ordained with the Evangelical Free Church of America and the Conservative Baptist Association of Churches. He has over 16 years of ministry experience serving in a variety of capacities: pastor, elder, guest pulpit supply, and retreat speaker. Dr. Badal has been serving Crossroads since 2010. He currently serves as the Dean of Educational Services, Institutional Effectiveness, and Online Programming. He is the Chair and Professor of Pastoral Theology, Leadership, and Education. Joel is married to Lisa and they have four children. They reside in the Chicago area.
Adjunct Professor Ft. Wayne
Kirk Barger, B.A., M.A.M., D.Min.: Kirk was the senior pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Oswego for three and a half years. He received his doctorate of ministry in Biblical Counseling in 2014 from Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, PA. Before that Kirk served as a missionary pastor in Norway for 8 years with ABWE (Association of Baptist for World Evangelism). For three years Kirk served as the Youth and Music Pastor at First Baptist Church of Goshen, IN. Dr. Barger has been a certified counselor with ACBC (formerly NANC) since 2002. He was ordained in 1998. He and his wife, Annette, have been married for thirty-three years; they have four adult children, JoyLynn, Ryan, Melinda, and Landon; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Matt, Alejandra, Abe and Brianna, and three grandchildren, Jade, Elliott, and Amelia.
Dountonia S. Batts has a passion for truth and justice from a biblical worldview. As a result, her educational achievements include a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Counseling from Crossroads Bible College; a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from Indiana Wesleyan University; and she is a third year law student at Indiana Tech Law School. She is married to Dr. Ramon Batts, pastor of Change and Restoration Community Baptist Church in Indianapolis and is the mother of 6 boys and 2 girls between them. She accepted Christ one Easter morning at the age of 7 and relentlessly pursues to fulfill God’s purpose for her life. Devoted to Christ and the ministry He has given her, Dountonia has led conferences, weekly Bible studies, and special events for women and youth. She also enjoys bringing her love for the creative arts of dance and music into her ministry. She is a certified instructor with Anchor’s Away Ministry. And, she is the former Baptist Editor of BellaOnline.com and authored several articles on faith and politics, spiritual development, and missions. She is the founder of NOT GUILTY! Courtroom Advocates and Monitors; co-founder of the Indiana Domestic Violence Appellate Project; Adjunct Professor at Crossroads Bible College; and owner of Scriptura Grant Writing and Fundraising Professionals LLC. She serves on several boards throughout Indianapolis and volunteers for many community organizations nationally and internationally, including Children’s Aid – Liberia and Children’s Aid – Philippines.
Adjunct Instructor of Urban Leadership
Hosea is a Professor of Urban Leadership at Crossroads Bible College. Professor Baxter holds a BA in Religious Studies from Martin University, conducted graduate studies at Christian Theological Seminary, and graduated from Martin University with a Master’s degree in urban ministry and education (Summa Cum Laude). At the age of twenty-two, Hosea married Karen Ann (Paicely) Baxter. They have been married for over thirty-three years. They are the proud parents of four children: Sean, Monique, Stephanie, and Brittany; and are the grandparents of eight.
John Bechtle has been teaching since 1972. He spent 26 years at Arizona College of the Bible in Phoenix, specializing in Greek, Bible, and church history. John also served as registrar and academic dean. He and his wife, Peggy, moved to Indianapolis in 1999 to direct the Telos Institute International, a distance-learning program for home schoolers. John has taught for Walk Thru the Bible, Phoenix Seminary, and other organizations, including a summer in Austria with Operation Mobilization. He enjoys playing piano and walking in half-marathons. He and Peggy have three children and five grandchildren.

The Rev. James Kenneth Brandyberry ministered in Karachi, Pakistan, and holds the degrees of A.A., Dip.Th., B.S., M.A. and D.D. He has taught in Bible colleges and seminaries in the United States, London, and Karachi. Jim pastored for several years and had a wide range of speaking engagements throughout America, Asia, and Europe including Harvard University and London’s Metropolitan Tabernacle. He has been preaching since 1973 and was ordained in 1981. Jim has been married since 1975 and has two sons.
Director of Admissions and Retention
Annetta Coleman is a mother of two young adults, and proud new grandmother. She is actively serving at Emmanuel Baptist Church as the leader of the Assimilation Team Ministry and serves on the Christian Education Board. For many years, she was the leader of the Singles ministry. She enjoys counseling, witnessing, leading small groups and giving to others. Her desire is to open a transitioning home for young adult women. Annetta serves as the Director of Admissions and Retention at Crossroads Bible College. She is a CBC graduate with a B.S. in Business Management and Ethics and is actively serving as an officer on the Alumni board. Annetta has worked twenty years in engineering administration, five years in medical administration, five years in retail/service, and currently in Christian education. Her life verse is: “For I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God who loves me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). She testifies that God’s grace has truly been granted over the years of parenting, ministry, and employment for she has witnessed and experienced God’s hand with each chapter of her life.
Part-time Church Liaison
David is the Director of Recruiting at Crossroads Bible College. He holds degrees in Christian Ministries and Biblical Literature from Indiana Wesleyan University. At Crossroads, David’s passion is recruiting the next generation of world changers.
Director of the Fort Wayne Campus
Jeanne Crafton has spent the past fifteen years investing in the lives of students in the arena of Christian higher education. She has been with Crossroads Bible College for the past four and half years as Director of the Fort Wayne campus. Prior to this, she was the Director of Adult Degree Completion at Arizona Christian University and has also served in similar capacities at Taylor University and Grand Canyon University. Jeanne earned a bachelor’s degree from Fort Wayne Bible College and a second bachelor’s degree in Applied Management from Grand Canyon University. She is certified as a gemologist by the Gemological Institute of America. Every April and October Jeanne leads private hiking tours in and out of the Grand Canyon in a day! Most importantly, Jeanne is continuing the legacy of her husband Tim as she invests into the lives of their children and granddaughters.
Gene graduated from Biola University with a degree in Bible, Christian Education, and Social Science. He received his Master of Divinity from Talbot Theological Seminary in New Testament Language and Literature. Gene’s Master of Theology in Biblical and Systematic Theology is from Grace Theological Seminary. His Doctor of Theology in Prophetics is from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary.
Administrative Assistant to Dean of Administration
LaVera has worked as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Administration for eight years. She graduated from Crossroads Bible College with a bachelor’s in Leadership and Ministry in 2008. LaVera is an active member of Eastern Star Church and serves as a Sunday School teacher for third and fourth graders. For many years she has been active with the Washington Township Special Olympics as a parent and as a golf coach and bowling partner. She served a two-year term on the Indiana Board of Special Olympics. LaVera has enjoyed being a travel consultant for over twenty years.
Dr. Dodson holds an undergraduate degree in business and finance from Strayer University in Washington, DC. A graduate in theology from Empire State Baptist Seminary in Liverpool, NY, he also holds master’s degrees in ministry and divinity and a doctor of ministry degree from Clark Summit University in Clarks Summit, PA. Dr. Dodson was a missionary church planter in upstate New York and a longtime pastor in Syracuse, NY, and Indianapolis, IN. He and his wife, Phyllis, have served the Lord in vocational Christian ministry for more than thirty-five years. Dr. Dodson and Mrs. Dodson now travel to India, different parts of Africa, and the Caribbean training pastors and leaders and conducting marriage seminars to enable them to instruct and equip others in their cities, towns, and villages. The Dodsons’ vision is that both families and churches will stand strong for the glory of God. Married since 1970, the Dodsons are the proud parents of three adult children (Angelita, Felicia, and Erskine II) and have four grandchildren. When they aren’t traveling and ministering, the Dodsons reside in Indianapolis.
Senior Director of Financial Aid
Phyllis Dodson (Sister D) serves as Senior Director of our Financial Aid Department at Crossroads Bible College. She established the financial aid department and obtained our certification to receive Title IV funds as well as the approval for State Grants and VA educational benefits. She has served on the staff of Crossroads for 17 years and loves her work and interaction with our students. Her other ministries include mentoring women, helping her husband establish an urban church in upstate New York, and serving with him now as a global missionary. She serves on the Board of Rehoboth India International Missions (RIIM). She has been married for almost forty-seven years to Dr. Erskine Dodson, who is an adjunct professor here at Crossroads. They have three adult children, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Her motto is “just pray” founded on the principle of God’s faithfulness to answer the prayers of His children.
Joseph Flatt pastored in his home state of Iowa for two years before moving to Carmel, IN, in 1974 where he pastored at First Baptist Church until 2014. He holds a Bachelor of Theology from Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA, a Master of Divinity from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, IN, and a Doctor of Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. He also completed a 30-year ministry as an Army chaplain attaining the rank of colonel. Dr. Flatt has also served as an adjunct professor at Crossroads Bible College and Grace College and has taught in Europe. He is a contributor to Reforming Pastoral Ministry published by Crossway Books. Joe and his wife, Judy, married in 1968 and are the parents of five adult children and grandparents of twelve. Dean of Enrollment Management
Richard Green, B.S., M.A.C.E.: Richard is the Dean of Enrollment Management at Crossroads Bible College. He has served as Education Director, teacher, leader of evangelism outreach programs, co-coordinator of conferences, Lay Leader (Chaplain) aboard two ships (during a career of over twenty years in the Navy) conducting Sunday services and evening prayers, deacon, pulpit supply, church plant, and various other ministries. Richard is an adjunct professor for Grace College in the areas of Leadership and Educational Ministry. Currently he serves as Youth and Family Pastor at Warren Baptist Church. Richard and his wife, Christy, have been married twenty-three years and have six children and one grandchild. Richard loves to read, teach, write, blog, but mostly he loves the outdoors and wants to serve the Lord.
Business Office Manager
Donna has been a part of the Crossroads team since 1998 holding a variety of roles over the years. She has a deep passion for children’s ministry–seeing children come to Christ and then growing spiritually. Donna is also instrumental in helping children deal with the death of a loved one. Currently, she teaches third-fifth grades in her church. Donna has been married to her husband Conway for eleven years. They love to go camping whenever they can. Their blended family includes a daughter, a son, a granddaughter, and a grandson.
Roger has been an adjunct at Crossroads since 2010. He has revised and taught general science, participated in Winterim 2011 with a science component, served as a reviewer with Professor Hosea Baxter on senior project reports, represented CBC twice in Eli Lilly’s Science Teacher Day where they give away excess scientific and lab equipment to schools. Roger has published three papers on fish biology based on his M.S. and Ph.D. research. He has written and presented many reports and training programs for previous employers covering environmental, health, and safety issues. For many years he was an adjunct professor teaching environmental courses at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. Roger enjoys playing softball whether it is through a church league or at the state league level where he can try to exhibit Christian values through his actions and words.
Hre Mang, Th.M., Ph.D.: Hre is an adjunct professor who teaches a leadership course at Crossroads Bible College. He is the senior pastor of Falam Christian Church of Indianapolis, IN. Hre and his wife, Lynda Tumpar, live in Indianapolis with their two children, Ginny Zalan Mang (senior) and Moses Cunghlei Mang (sophomore) at Perry Meridian High School. He is also currently serving as Vice President of the Crossroads Baptist Association of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Adjunct Instructor of Bible
Dr. Piotrowski’s goal is to make explicit the manifold glories of God in the gospel of Jesus Christ for the good of the church and the world. To this end he hopes to instill in his students a philosophically consistent hermeneutic to the text of Scripture, and a cultural sensitivity for discerning the spirit of our age. Dr. Piotrowski believes that the Bible contains a unified metanarrative that can be brought to bear on the questions that postmoderns are asking. Courses he teaches include Hermeneutics, New Testament Survey I & II, Systematic Theology I, II & III, Theology of Culture, Apologetics, Greek and Hebrew. Dr. Piotrowski also has a passion for cultural apologetics—the engagement with long-standing cultural and social trends that bear on the broad perception of the plausibility of the gospel. The majority of his work has been done through the Fox Valley Theological Society (www.FVTS.net), of which he is a cofounder. His wife, Cheryl, and their two sons, Silas and Andreas, are excited to participate in what the Lord is doing through Crossroads!
Vice President of Administration and Academics
Marcus was raised in a Christian home with a father who was an Old Testament/Hebrew professor. He has been married to Jennifer for twenty years and has seven children. Marcus has a Master of Divinity degree and is pursuing a doctorate in Global Leadership. He currently serves at Crossroads Bible College as the Vice President of Administration and Academics. He enjoys reading, hiking, sports, spending time with family, politics, traveling, and history.
Director of Institutional Advancement
David Selvey, M.R.E., D.Min.: David serves as the Director of Institutional Advancement and as adjunct faculty at Crossroads Bible College. He also serves as a certified biblical counselor at Faith Church in Lafayette, IN. He is certified by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. He has also served in the roles of church planting missionary, pastor, Bible Institute Director, business entrepreneur, mission agency executive, and international teacher of theology, missions, and biblical counseling. David completed his doctoral work in Missions and Evangelism at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School with an emphasis on pre-field orientation and training of missionaries. He and his wife, Kathy have four adult children and three grandchildren. He is passionate about multiplying himself for the cause of Christ.
Professor Emeritus of Bible
Mike Smith has served as a faculty member at Crossroads for thirty-three years. He received his B.A. from California State University at Los Angeles, his M.A. from Bob Jones University, and additional graduate work at Liberty Baptist Seminary and Bob Jones Seminary. Prior to his arrival at CBC, he was on the faculty of Missionary Baptist College in his home state of CA. For the past fifteen years, he has ministered as a “pastor” to those at the Sanders Glen Assisted Living Community in Westfield, IN.
Theron St. John
Theron St. John is an alumnus of Crossroads Bible College who now serves the school as an adjunct professor. He received his Master of Divinity in Pastoral Studies from Capital Seminary and Graduate School. Theron has a passion for both the local church and the academy. In addition to his role at Crossroads, Theron currently serves as the Associate Pastor of Blue Ridge Christian Union Church in Shelbyville, Indiana. His desire is to glorify God by teaching and training Christians how to live as stewards of the gospel. In his free time, Theron enjoys serving and spending time with his family and friends, reading, and writing. He blogs at www.entrustedbygod.org.
Bob Stone is a 2012 graduate of the Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Counseling and Discipleship from Crossroads Bible College. Bob uses his CBC training in many areas, including being a biblical counselor at College Park Church in Indianapolis and being a soul care coach in College Park’s biblical counseling ministry. Bob is too humble to mention it, be we will: he graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Summa Cum Laude graduate and Class Salutatorian. Bob also works full-time in the business world as a Director of Sales and Business Development.
Financial Aid Counselor
Debora brings over twenty-five years of banking and finance experience to her position at Crossroads as a financial aid counselor. Her educational background includes Taylor University and the University of Indianapolis. She accepted Christ at the age of eleven under the ministry of Pastor James Wells, the founder of Crossroads. Her father, brother, and her husband are all CBC alums. Debora’s husband is the associate pastor at Greater Northwest Baptist Church where they counsel engaged and married couples. Debora sings in the choir and in a gospel group as well as serving as the chairperson of the church finance committee. For three years, she served on the board of Bethany Christian Services. Debora loves to counsel young mothers especially those whose husbands are in the ministry.
Josh is a Crossroads graduate with a B.S. in Biblical Counseling and Discipleship. He began working in the library while he was a student. Josh enjoys the benefits of his education as he ministers to his family and friends wherever he is. He and his wife attend Hunter Road Bible Church in Indianapolis. They recently welcomed the birth of their first child.
Kathy has been a member of the Crossroads team for five years. She is the secretary at her church where she also teaches the two’s and three’s Sunday School class. Kathy has been married to Darrell for twenty-one years. Their three children are Rebecca, Jacob, and Joshua. She enjoys scrapbooking and attending her children’s sporting events.
Dr. A. Charles Ware, D.D.: Dr. Ware is President Emeritus of Crossroads Bible College. He earned his B.R.E from Baptist Bible College and M.Div. from Capital Bible Seminary, and an Honorary Doctorate from Baptist Bible Seminary. Dr. Ware is on the Board for ABWE (Association of Baptist for World Evangelism), ABHE (Association for Biblical Higher Education), Anchors Away, and on the Council Board of the Biblical Counseling Coalition. Dr. Ware has authored, co-authored, contributed to, and edited several books. Among these is One Race One Blood (previously published under the title Darwin’s Plantation: Evolution’s Racist Roots (Master Books, 2007). He co-authored this book with Answers in Genesis founder and President, Ken Ham. As of 2017, Dr. Ware and his wife, Sharon, will be celebrating 44 years of marriage. They have six children, four daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and three grandchildren.
Administrative Assistant to the President
Sapphire Ware was born in Miami, FL, where both of her parents had migrated. Because her mother was from Nicaragua and her father was from Cuba, she grew up being able to speak both Spanish and English. She is currently serving as the Administrative Assistant to the President of Crossroads Bible College, Dr. Charles Ware, who also happens to be her father-in-law. Marrying the youngest son, she became a new addition to the Ware family in August 2016. She loves to read, enjoys spending time with people, likes to travel, and is passionate to serve wherever there may be a need.
